The St. Tammany Parish Retired School Employees Association Educational Grant
Each year the STPRSEA presents an educational grant to a graduating senior from the St. Tammany Parish Public School System who is considering education as a career, plans to attend a college or university in Louisiana, and has an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. Other criteria for receiving the grant include involvement with young people and children and participation in the St. Tammany Parish Public School System teaching internship program. Applications for the grant are screened in March and a recipient is announced in May.
Students can apply for the scholarship through their school counselors. The 2010-2011 recipient was Karen Carney from Northshore High School. The scholarship program is funded through donations made to the Scholarship Fund.
Message From The President
It is hard to believe that the summer has flown by already and another school year has started. Thank you to everyone who has supported me as president of this great association for another year. I lookforward to working with you this year.
Welcome to all of our newly retired members! We are happy you have joined us and hope that you will encourage others that you may know who are retired but have not joined STPRSEA to do so. Those wishing to join can find our membership form on our Web site, sttammanyretirees.org, or may feel free to contact me for a form.
Also, I want to thank all of the people who have agreed to serve as officers or board members this year.I know some of the board members have already started forming their committees. If you or someone you know would like to serve on any committee, please contact the board member who chairs that committee or contact one of the officers. I would love to see more people involved.
On behalf of all our retirees, I want to thank all of you who wrote letters, called or met with our state senators and state representatives during the last legislative session concerning our retirement benefits. We will continue to watch the legislature closely, and we may need to call on our membership for similar efforts again next spring.
We want to make every effort to maintain effective communication with you, so if you have an email address but are not receiving emails from us, please notify me via email at stpretirees@gmail.com. Also, we hope you will visit our Web site frequently to follow our activities and get timely information.
Finally, please use the list of our officers and board members along with the dates for our meetings found in our Web site for future reference.
I hope you will plan to get involved, attend the meetings, and bring some retired School Board friends.
Thanks for your help and support,
Marian C. Arrowsmith, President STPREA
